Fiscal deficit target minister hopes

Union Minister of State for Finance Bhagwat Karath has said that the government will achieve the fiscal deficit target of 5.90 percent for the current financial year.

Stating that the government has raised Rs 10,050 crore through disinvestment in various PSUs so far in the current financial year, the minister said disinvestment is a continuous process and depends on market conditions, domestic and global economic outlook and investor interest.

'Demat' Nominee: Must report by January

The market regulator SEBI has said that 'demat' account holders should submit the nominee details by January 1. According to the SEBI order, nominees are required to provide information, failing which they cannot transact in the shares. 
 
Also they cannot withdraw money from their demat accounts. It is to be noted that the deadline, which was to end on September 30, had already been extended by three months.

Sugar production declined by 11 percent

During the period from October 1 to December 15, the country's sugar production fell by 11 percent to 74.05 lakh tonnes. It was 82.95 lakh tonnes in the same period last year. Sugar mills in the states of Maharashtra and Karnataka started production 10 to 15 days late this year, which was the main reason for the decrease in production.
