India is taking a major step toward accelerating electric vehicle (EV) adoption with the launch of a massive EV charging infrastructure project worth ₹2,000 crore. Under the Central Government's PM E-DRIVE scheme, approval has been granted to establish 4,874 public EV charging stations across 74 key national highway corridors throughout the country.

The initiative aims to reduce India's dependence on petrol and diesel imports while promoting environmentally friendly transportation. As part of the first phase, Tamil Nadu will receive 498 fast-charging stations across seven major highway corridors, making long-distance EV travel more convenient and reliable.

4,874 EV Charging Stations Across India

The Central Government has approved the installation of 4,874 public-use EV charging stations along 74 major national highways. Out of these, 50 highway corridors are dedicated to electric cars and buses, while 24 corridors are specifically designed to support heavy-duty electric trucks and freight vehicles.

The project is being implemented under the PM E-DRIVE scheme, which follows the success of the FAME initiative aimed at encouraging green mobility across India.

₹503 Crore Initial Allocation

To kickstart the nationwide EV infrastructure expansion, the government has approved an initial allocation of ₹503 crore. Of this, ₹34.6 crore has been earmarked specifically for Tamil Nadu to strengthen the state's EV charging network.

Tamil Nadu to Get 498 Fast Charging Stations

Tamil Nadu has emerged as one of the key beneficiaries of the project. The state will receive 498 fast-charging points along the following major highway corridors:

  • Chennai – Bengaluru
  • Chennai – Trichy
  • Chennai – Nagercoil
  • Chennai – Thoothukudi
  • Bengaluru – Coimbatore
  • Coimbatore – Trichy
  • Coimbatore – Nagapattinam

These charging stations are expected to significantly improve the convenience of long-distance EV travel and eliminate range anxiety among electric vehicle users.

Boost for EV Adoption in South India

The project is not limited to Tamil Nadu alone. Neighboring Kerala is also set to receive 147 new EV charging stations along national highways. With improved charging infrastructure across South India, experts expect a sharp increase in electric vehicle sales and usage over the coming years.

A Major Push Towards Green Mobility

The PM E-DRIVE scheme represents one of India's largest investments in EV infrastructure. By expanding charging networks across key transportation corridors, the government aims to make electric vehicles a practical choice for both personal and commercial transportation.

As charging stations become more accessible, EV owners will enjoy greater travel flexibility, reduced operating costs, and a cleaner transportation ecosystem, helping India move closer to its sustainability and carbon reduction goals.

This gold price is not permanent.

This gold price is not permanent, but when people think of a problem in the country, they buy gold first. It is good to buy as much as needed, but buying too much is foolish. When there is a famine, the things they buy are food, clothing, and money. If we don't have money, it is difficult to sell gold for urgent needs. Gold price Gold market crash history   Will there ever be a situation where gold , which has been rising very, very rapidly in a short period of time, will become a commodity? Studies on gold say that it may come. If we look at the price of gold over the past 50 years, rather than just 10 or 20 years, it seems that what you are saying has happened. That is, in September 1980, the price of 1 ounce of gold touched $666. 19 years later, in September 1999, the same 1 ounce of gold was sold for $255. A 62 percent decline. An ounce did not touch $666 again until 2007. That is, 27 years later. Next, in 2012, 1 ounce of gold touched $1,772. But, in just three ye...
